Not just that lighting is among the most important features of a home, but so is the choice of lighting products. You do not want something that is completely incompatible with the rest of your room décor hanging from the ceiling. And I know what you will say: “With all the things I need to pay attention to when decorating my home, now I have to think of lighting products too?”
Of course you do, if you want your rooms to be illuminated right and all elements to be in complete harmony with each other. Otherwise, use the old lighting products you inherited from your grandmother. For all of you who have decided to leave grandma’s items where they truly belong, here are a few things to pay attention to.
Decorative vs. Practical Lighting
You cannot go wrong with decorative lighting if you are aiming at adding a note of certain style to the room. The thing is, decorative lighting products are not always as functional as we want them to be. In most cases, they do not provide enough light, which is why you need to get another lighting product to get the job done. In these cases, you would need practical lighting products. So, in rooms where you can, such as the living room, bedrooms and bathrooms, choose decorative lighting. On the other hand, in rooms where light is of the essence, such as the dining room and the kitchen, choose something more practical.
One room at a time
You do not need to figure out the lighting in all rooms at once. Take your time and do the math; what type of lighting you need for each room? What are you going to be doing in it? For rooms and other spaces that need a lot of light, get LED home lighting products. For bedrooms you can choose a softer glow, and for the living room, recessed lighting will be great.
Don’t forget the room style!
What style is your room design? Contemporary, elegant, classic or maybe new-age hipster? Do you have a lot of fancy elements on the walls like framed quotes, shaped clocks, enlarged photographs? Or maybe your walls are decorated with art from famous painters, such as Picasso? Make sure to choose the lighting products for each room according to the style. For instance, if your rooms are designed like the first scenario, with a lot of interesting objects on the walls, simple, minimal few furniture elements, then make sure the lighting fixtures are in that style too. If your room is elegant, consider chandeliers or some Tiffany style torchiere lamps.
Installation
Can you do the installation of your lighting elements effectively or you would need to hire professional help? Hanging lights require some help and are generally harder to install. This means that in case you do not know how to install chandeliers, sconces and other attractive indoor lighting fixtures you would need to consider asking for professional help.
