An answer to this question is not easy to give. If we consider that there are approximately 12.5 million passenger vehicles in Australia, it is clear that there is a tough race among car brands on which holds the most selling model. A tough competition is only adding sense to this discussion as companies use all kinds of methods to reach more customers and get ahead of their opponents. Vehicle service in Melbourne for instance, has become an industry of its own, with car manufacturers enhancing their customer and car service to the highest level. Basically, Australian market is a battleground for domestic, Japanese and German manufacturers. Rankings have shown that past decades weren’t very turbulent, as only 2-3 car models held number one spot on the ”most selling car” list.
A typical open road scene in Australia consists of bunch of Toyotas, Holdens and Mazdas. With Toyota overtaking 1st place in 2013, these brands have respectfully retained high positions in Australia.
Toyota
Toyota’s Corolla has become the most popular car in Australia since last October. Reports from January 2013, show that Toyota Corolla sold 44.128 units this year and is in a tight race with 2nd and 3rd place which belong to Mazda 3 and Holden models. Toyota’s undisputed success is confirmed with the fact that it holds 19% of Australian market in March 2013. Several other models of Toyota are on top selling lists as well, showing how strong this brand is in Australia.
Mazda
Mazda may be sitting on 2nd spot, but with high ambition to overtake championship title. Numbers from January 2013 show that Mazda 3 achieved sales of 3 345 units – 500 more than Toyota Corolla units. Mechanics in auto services from Box Hill say that Mazda has increased its training for certified auto shops, allowing high quality service at a low price. Maybe this was a change in strategy that helped Mazda get slightly ahead of Toyota In January.
Holden
Just for the record, domestic car manufacturer Holden, was number one selling car brand in Australia for almost two decades (1996-2011). this changed in January 2013, which wasn’t a good month for Holden as its sales dropped by 2.8% with 8811 units sold. However, Holden Commodore still is one of the most popular models manufactured by Holden brand, and enjoys a good success holding the 3rd spot.
